About

Welcome to Athenaeum of Central Mississippi (ACM) Homeschooling Program! We are so excited to share with you about our program and would love to begin this journey alongside you! ACM has been the cultivation of many years of consideration and thought put to the fire by a swift need for a new homeschooling program in the Jackson Metro for the 2024-’25 school year. ACM will focus on the arts and electives as well as gifted education and academics. Our goal and focus is to cultivate creativity and ingenuity in your child(ren).

“Non scholae sed vitae discimus” means we learn not for school, but for life and is a perfect slogan for ACM!

Our focus is to bring to you a 2 day a week program on Mondays and Wednesdays between the hours of 8:30am-2:00pm that will breathe life into your child(ren). Calendar for the 2025-2026 school year will be published soon.

Story & Mission

Dr. Rebecca Mullican received her PhD in Special Education in May 2012 and her BCBA in May 2017. Dr. Mullican has classroom experience with students kindergarten through graduate school as a teacher and professor since 2002. Dr. Mullican is passionate about homeschooling, working with students who have neurodivergence, twice exceptional, and gifted students. She worked in multiple schools that were passionate about the arts being included in education and continued with this passion with her own children.

Our goal at ACM is to bring a new program to the greater Jackson area that will focus on arts, gifted education, electives, and academics in such a meaningful, life changing way for students.

Values & Approach

At the Athenaeum of Central Mississippi, we see time as a gift: the extra time we have with our families, the time we have to study the arts, the time to be creative, and the time to immerse ourselves in projects that are meaningful to our students. This is why we will not assign a lot of school work for the days that students are at home. As homeschoolers, students should be engaged in a variety of activities outside the classroom which include field trips, nature studies, projects of students’ own choice, travel, extra family time, as well as whatever other values are important to each family.

Students at ACM will be involved in a variety of elective and academic classes with a thirty minute lunch break. Approaches used in the classroom will be child-centered and follow European pedagogy. Families will have three days a week at home to focus on any academics that they feel their child needs additional work in or that is not covered in their coursework at school.
